STL indicts Ayyash in Hamadeh, Murr, Hawi cases
BEIRUT: The Special Tribunal for Lebanon indicted Hezbollah veteran Salim Ayyash for the assassination attempts of former ministers Marwan Hamadeh, Elias Murr and killing George Hawi.

The indictment and arrest warrant were sent to the Lebanese authorities “who have an obligation to search for, arrest and transfer the accused to the STL’s custody,” the tribunal said.

STL’s pre-trial judge determined that the cases of Hamadeh, Murr and Hawi are connected to the assassination of late Premier Rafik Hariri on Feb. 14, 2005.

Ayyash has been charged with committing terrorist acts, intentional homicide and attempted intentional homicide of Hamadeh, Murr and 17 others. He and three other defendants, Assad Sabra, Hussein Oneissi and Hassan Merhi are being tried for their alleged involvement in the attack that killed Hariri and 21 others.

The four defendants are known to be members of Hezbollah, but they are on trial as individuals. Hezbollah as an organization has not been indicted for the bombing.
