BEIRUT: Ballot boxes in six Arab countries opened Friday morning marking the beginning of the first historic voting of its kind allowing expatriates to participate in the parliamentary elections.
Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil was at the ministry monitoring and watching the Lebanese heading to the polling stations and casting their votes through a huge screen.
“I am very proud to witness through the screen at the Foreign Ministry the first [expats] voting in Lebanon’s history. It is the beginning of a path that will not stop except with the return of the Lebanese to their Lebanity,” Bassil said via Twitter.
Those in Arab countries, numbering 12,609, began to head to polls starting 6 a.m. Beirut time.
