Libyan authorities find remains of children abducted in 2015
Associated Press
BENGHAZI, Libya: Libyan authorities say they have found the remains of three children abducted more than two years ago west of the capital, Tripoli.

The Libyan criminal investigation office said Saturday the bodies were found south the town of Surman, near the Mediterranean coast.

An armed group kidnapped the children, who belong to the family of businessman Reyad al-Shershari, and demanded ransom. The December 2015 abduction highlighted the security deterioration in Libya since the 2011 uprising. The children were five to 12 years old when they were kidnapped.

Al-Shershari told local media that he appealed to authorities over the years but they failed to pursue the case.

In March, the investigation office said it arrested the gang's leader and killed other members.
