The group behind 1983 US Embassy bombing in Beirut is same group involved in Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Bahrain: Machnouk
BEIRUT: Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk Wednesday said Lebanon is looking for Arab nations to have a strong presence at the upcoming international conferences to assist Lebanon.

He called on Arab states to provide “... all types of support possible for the state and its institutions,” during a speech from Algeria at a conference for Arab countries’ interior ministers.

He also slammed nonstate armed groups in Lebanon and said that the same people behind the 1983 U.S. Embassy bombing in Beirut were the same as those involved in Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Bahrain today.

The U.S. has accused Hezbollah of being behind the bombing that killed over 200 American marines, sailors, and soldiers with a further 128 wounded.

In an apparent jab at Hezbollah, Machnouk said only the state should possess weapons and the authority to determine peace or war.

“In Lebanon ... after the parliamentary elections, we are looking for the state to become the only side to possess weapons and make decisions of war or peace,” Machnouk added.
