GENEVA: The independent commission tasked with investigating human rights violations in Syria will publish its findings on Monday, the UN rights body said.
The panel was established in August amid the deteriorating situation in Syria and rights violations previously recorded by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

Its three experts, Karen Koning AbuZayd from the United States, Turk Yakin Erturk and Paulo Sergio Pinheiro from Brazil will discuss the report at a press conference on Monday.
The Human Rights Council, which appointed the commission, will study the findings at its 19th session taking place in March.

The panel started its work on September 26, an OHCHR statement said, and interviewed first-hand victims and witnesses of human rights abuses in Syria.
Members also met with regional organizations including the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the Arab League but had not been allowed to carry out its work inside Syria.

"The Commission hopes to engage in a positive dialogue with the Syrian authorities in the near future, and especially as it is mandated to produce a follow-up report by March 2012," said the statement.
The Arab League will meet on Thursday to discuss economic sanctions against Syria, where at least 3,500 have been killed in a regime crackdown since March, according to UN estimates.
