BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Journalists’ Union called over the weekend for modern laws to be adopted in a bid to modernize the profession and protect journalists’ rights and the freedom of the press. “The meeting focused on restructuring the work of the Journalists Union to cater for modern day needs,” the body’s vice president, Saeed Nassereddine, told reporters after a meeting with Information Minister Tarek Mitri Saturday. During the meeting the delegation handed Mitri a copy of the Journalists Union’s newly ratified by-laws. – The Daily Star
