Date: Nov 19, 2019 Source: The Daily Star Lebanese line up as banks reopen The Daily Star BEIRUT: Scores of Lebanese lined up outside banks and by ATMs across Lebanon Tuesday, following a full week of closures. Security measures were put in place by the Interior Ministry, with Internal Security Forces deployed at the various branches to maintain order. The Association of Banks in Lebanon called on all banks to reopen their doors in an announcement Monday. They were also instructed by the ABL to place a $1,000 cap on weekly cash withdrawals from U.S. dollar accounts. Lines were seen in Beirut, Baalbeck, Kesrouan, North Bekaa and Zgharta, according to the state-run National News Agency. After the start of nationwide protests on Oct. 17, bank branches closed for two weeks and reopened on Nov. 1. They then closed again on Nov. 12, woing due to a strike called by The Federation of Bank Employees Syndicates over unsuitable working conditions.
