The appeal came three days before the June 7 deadline. Twenty-one candidates from six different electoral lists that competed in Beirut II district met outside the council in the presence of their lawyer Said Malik, who submitted a single appeal on their behalf. Candidates said they wanted to revoke the overall result in Beirut II and not specific seats, arguing there was “cheating and forgery” in the process. Malik said the council has accepted the appeal form, adding the electoral process included “many impurities.” He said the appeal calls for annulling the results in the district and urged new elections to be held based on “integrity and honesty.” | |
