USAID launches $80M project for vulnerable Lebanese communities
BEIRUT: USAID launched an $80 million assistance project in Lebanon Wednesday that will aim to improve the delivery of essential services and resources to vulnerable communities.

During a launch event, the USAID mission director, Anne Patterson, said the five-to-seven-year Community Support Program will combine speed, flexibility and sustainability, allowing the development agency to address immediate, small-scale needs of communities across the country.

The event took place at Le Royal Hotel in Dbayeh. Over 100 people attended, including officials from the U.S. Embassy, international donors, governors, mayors and representatives from the Interior and Energy ministries.

According to a press release from USAID, the United States government has provided Lebanon with $1.3 billion in economic assistance since 2007, which has covered past and ongoing USAID projects such as the Lebanon Water Project to improve access to clean water in the country.
