Women’s commission signs memos on gender equality
BEIRUT: The National Commission for Lebanese Women signed a number of memos Tuesday aiming to empower professional women and encourage them to take on leadership positions in the country.

Established in 1998, the commission focuses on issues related to the development of strategies to achieve gender equality.

Tuesday's memos were signed in collaboration with the Makhzoumi Foundation, a local community development organization; INJAZ Lebanon, a youth empowerment organization; and the Lebanese League for Women in Business, which focuses on empowering professional women.

According to a statement from the commission, the memos reinforce the NCLW’s commitment to enhancing the economic, social and environmental role of women and girls, and to empowering women to take on leadership positions, including roles on boards of directors.

The memos also emphasize the commission’s goal of achieving sustainable development goals in general, and in particular to combating and eradicating poverty among women; developing their personal, managerial and financial skills; introducing them to the principles of entrepreneurship; and helping them establish small businesses.
