Syrian army blocks highway with Lebanon

BEIRUT: The Syrian army blocked the Beirut-Damascus international highway on the Syrian side of the border Saturday, media reports said.
The army did not cross into Lebanon, security sources confirmed to The Daily Star.

“No Syrian solider has entered Lebanese territory,” high-ranking sources said, after Al-Jazeera reported that the Syrian army had blocked the international highway.

Lebanese who usually drive through the highway to reach Syria confirmed to The Daily Star that they were not able to use the road, which is situated east of the northern Lebanese village of Ksayr.
