Judgment in Hariri assassination case to be announced in May
BEIRUT: The Special Tribunal for Lebanon will in May announce its verdict in the case of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the court said Thursday.

Judges said they would specify the precise date of the public announcement of the judgment “as soon as possible,” a statement from the STL said.

The accused currently facing trial in absentia are Salim Ayyash, Hassan Merhi, Hussein Oneissi and Assad Sabra, who are charged with conspiracy to commit a terrorist act, among other charges. Concluding arguments in the case were delivered in September 2018 and judges have since been deliberating their verdict.

The four defendants are known to be members of Hezbollah, but they are on trial as individuals. Hezbollah as an organization has not been indicted for the bombing.

Hariri, along with 21 others, was killed in an explosion in Downtown Beirut on Feb. 14, 2005.
