Almost 90,000 Syrian refugees have returned: General Security
BEIRUT: General Security announced in a statement Friday that 87,670 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country since July.

Of the refugees that made the journey, 7,670 did so through voluntary return trips that the agency has organized; the remaining returnees made the trip on their own.

The latest of these trips took place Thursday, when over 500 refugees returned to Syria.

General Security has been registering Syrian refugees who are willing to return voluntarily and organizing their transportation, as well as serving as an intermediary with Syrian authorities, who in some cases may reject a potential returnee.

In September, General Security head Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim claimed 50,000 Syrian refugees had returned from Lebanon so far this year and that the number could climb to 200,000 within a year’s time.
