Two commit suicide in Lebanon as poverty mounts
BEIRUT: Two men committed suicide in Lebanon Friday as the country maintains its catastrophic economic collapse with no bailout in sight.

A man from Hermel, 61, shot himself in Beirut’s Hamra in front of Dunkin' Donuts Friday morning. The man left a copy of his clean judicial record on his chest, demonstrating his innocence.

Former Libya envoy accuses Security Council of 'hypocrisy'

CAIRO: A former UN envoy to Libya has accused the Security Council of "hypocrisy" and of undermining his efforts to bring peace to the war-torn North African country.

In a podcast interview aired Tuesday, Ghassan Salame said the majority of the UN Security Council supported the military offensive launched last year by Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar to capture the capital, Tripoli, from the internationally recognized government.

With great pain and sadness, we mourn the death of our friend, colleague and co-founder of the Arab Network for the Study of Democracy, Dr. Emad Siyam.

Emad, an activist and a researcher, spent years struggling for freedom, social justice and democracy in Egypt. He was arrested and sent to jail many many times in the 80s and the 90s.
