Trump says may declare Daesh defeated as early as next week
WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he expected a formal announcement as early as next week that the coalition fighting Daesh (ISIS) militants has reclaimed all of the territory previously held by the extremist group.

“Their land is gone. It’s a big factor,” Trump told foreign ministers and other senior officials from 79 countries that have worked alongside the United States in fighting the militant group in Syria and Iraq.

Opposition rejects move to extend Sisi’s rule

CAIRO: Egyptian opposition parties have formed a coalition against proposed changes to the constitution that would allow President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to stay in office well beyond the end of his current term in 2022, two opposition leaders said Wednesday. Egypt’s Parliament has given its preliminary approval to the changes, after two-thirds of the general committee endorsed the proposed amendments Tuesday.

With great pain and sadness, we mourn the death of our friend, colleague and co-founder of the Arab Network for the Study of Democracy, Dr. Emad Siyam.

Emad, an activist and a researcher, spent years struggling for freedom, social justice and democracy in Egypt. He was arrested and sent to jail many many times in the 80s and the 90s.
