Aoun sets April 14 as date for Tripoli by-election
BEIRUT: President Michel Aoun has set April 14 as the date for a majoritarian by-election to be held in Tripoli to fill a vacant parliamentary seat, a tweet from the presidency said.

The fifth Sunni seat in Tripoli was left empty last month after former MP Dima Jamali’s election was annulled.

The annulment, which was decided by the Constitutional Council, was based on an appeal by failed candidate Taha Naji, who had run against Jamali in May's parliamentary elections as part of MP Faisal Karami’s National Dignity list.

Jamali was part of Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Future Movement, which this week launched her by-election campaign.
