Constitutional Council rejects appeal of Jamali by-election win
BEIRUT: The Constitutional Council rejected Wednesday Yehya Mawloud’s appeal against Tripoli MP Dima Jamali’s April by-election victory, the state-run National News Agency reported.

A failed candidate in the election, Mawloud submitted the appeal in May, citing 11 alleged violations, mainly concerning Jamali’s use of public property to hold campaign meetings, his lawyer said at the time.

The appeal also accused the Jamali of having “confessed to bribing voters.”

The by-election was held after Jamali was unseated in February, following a successful appeal of her victory in the national parliamentary polls in May 2018.

That appeal was filed by unsuccessful candidate Taha Naji, who had run on MP Faisal Karami’s National Dignity electoral list.

Jamali returned to Parliament after winning the Tripoli by-election with over two-thirds of the vote.
