Lebanon: Supervisory committee condemns intervention
BEIRUT: The Electoral Supervisory Committee issued a statement Wednesday condemning the intervention of senior public sector officials in the May 6 parliamentary elections. The committee said “a number of complaints” had been filed about candidates in various electoral districts who were being supported by senior officials, the statement read.

The committee transferred the complaints to the institutions responsible for the public sector employees suspected of violating the electoral law “for necessary investigation, but has not received any response or [been notified of any] action taken in this regard.” It added that “in order to implement the principle of neutrality and transparency ... the competent ministers shall be informed that measures must be taken to put an end to such violations.”

The committee will hold a news conference on April 23 to inform the public about its work and to answer parties’ questions on its role.
